Challenges become easier when they're shared.

Over the last decade, we've completed many projects that save our owners money, increase their profitability, and make them more attractive to consumers. And through our collaborative approach, we've also realized which ideas weren't worth pursuing for financial or other reasons, saving our owners significant R&D costs. Account Aggregation:

Inspiration:
Credit unions sought a way to aggregate accounts and give members online access – a challenge with rapidly emerging technology – yet realized trying to develop this service on their own would cause them to incur high development costs.

Solution:
In June 2001, MDC signed an agreement with Yodlee.com for the provision of its account aggregation services to members through credit unions, with the credit union brand and at extremely competitive and affordable rates compared to other options available at the time. MDC owners were given additional discounts and installation priority. Further negotiations with Yodlee netted a limited version of the service that could be put on a credit union's website for up to twelve months with no up-front fee to allow credit unions to test their member interest in the service.

Results:
MDC owners were given discounts and installation priority. A primary benefit to the 33 MDC owners seeking the research on this topic was that each of them did not incur the cost of this discovery and due diligence. MDC subsequently terminated its arrangement with Yodlee due to lack of sustainable market interest in account aggregation services.
